January 19, 2017 – Announcement re: School Closing
It is my sad duty to inform you of the closure of our parish school at the end of June 2017. The Diocese of Oakland, after a long, comprehensive study of demographics and financial realities has mandated the closure of a number of parish schools, including Saint Jerome School.
A guiding process and plan, the Operational and Financial Improvements Initiative, is mandated by the Bishop of Oakland and the consultative bodies of the diocese. It includes the entire Diocese of Oakland – not just the schools. We are witnessing just a small, but significant, portion of this diocesan-wide undertaking. As Pastor, it is my place to accede to this decision and I hope and pray for your support in this decision.
The School Department will work with each school community to seek a placement for each child in a Catholic school. The Human Resources Department will work with faculties, staffs and administrators to facilitate new job opportunities within the diocese.
The school remains an asset of Saint Jerome Parish. As such, the buildings and grounds remain our responsibility. The diocese will provide each parish with the necessary oversight and guidance regarding the future use of the school buildings. I seek your support in this momentous turn of events and the loss of our school community.
Fr. Fernando J. Cortez, Pastor

Did you know that St. Jerome Parish was established in 1941? Monsignor James Rohan was the founding pastor (1941-1973). He succeeded in building a mission-style church. A school and convent were added in 1955.
Be sure to check out the photo album – St. Jerome Church and School Photos from the past: 1970-1990’s – that has been added to St. Jerome’s Facebook page.
SAVE THE DATE!!! St. Jerome School is celebrating it’s 60th anniversary this year. On April 23, 2016, we will be celebrating this milestone event at the Galileo Club in Richmond with a dinner for all those 21 and over. All alumni, former students, current and past families, and anyone who would like to celebrate are invited to attend. For more information, contact Liz Remigio at email@example.com, or Jim Almeida at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks and hope to see you there!
Be sure to check out St Jerome School’s Facebook photo album. Rohan Hall was overflowing.
It was a full house last night at Rohan Hall for the Bit of Italy Dinner – fund raiser for St Jerome School. The marina sauce and pesto sauce were both delicious…..even gluten-free pasta was available. The meal also came with salad, bread and drinks. The results of the silent auction will appear on the St Jerome School website.
