Pope Francis Names the 5th Bishop of Oakland

On Friday, May 3, Pope Francis announced Bishop-elect Michael Barber, SJ, as the new bishop of the diocese. Reverend Barber has most recently been the Directory of Spiritual formation at St. John’s Seminary in the Archdiocese of Boston, but has deep roots in the Bay Area and especially in Oakland. His Episcopal Ordination and Installation Mass will take place Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m. the Cathedral of Christ the Light. Archbishop Brunett will continue to administer the diocese until that time. Please continue to pray for our new bishop, for the diocese, and for Archbishop Brunett.
